Aims & Scope

The International Journal of Tourism Sciences (IJTS) is a peer-reviewed social sciences journal dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of tourism as a complex human and social phenomenon. Established with the belief that science serves humanity, IJTS approaches tourism not only as an industry or economic activity, but as a vital field through which we can better comprehend human behavior, social interaction, and cultural transformation in an increasingly interconnected world.

The term “Sciences” in the journal’s title reflects our commitment to methodological rigor, theoretical advancement, and evidence-based inquiry. Yet, we recognize that the ultimate purpose of scientific research—especially in the social sciences—is to improve human life and societal well-being. For the purposes of determining areas of interest, tourism is viewed as a dynamic field encompassing human behavior, mobility, culture, technology, and the environment. IJTS regards tourism as an integrative arena where science and humanity intersect—one that enables deeper insight into how people move, connect, and create meaning across places and societies.

While striving for a balance between theoretical innovation and practical relevance, IJTS is ultimately devoted to developing and disseminating scientific knowledge that contributes to the advancement of tourism studies. Disciplinary areas include, but are not limited to, tourism management, hospitality businesses, marketing, consumer behavior, service industries, economics, policy and governance, geography, sustainability and environmental studies, cultural and social anthropology, psychology, education, and communication studies. Recognizing the accelerating transformation of tourism in the age of digital intelligence, IJTS also welcomes studies addressing artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, and immersive technologies. The journal values both quantitative and qualitative approaches and encourages integrative methodologies that enhance the scientific robustness of tourism research.

The editorial strategy of IJTS is to invite and promote interdisciplinary contributions; to serve as a forum for collaboration among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers; and to expand the frontiers of tourism knowledge through the lens of science. IJTS therefore welcomes scholarship that bridges analytical precision with human insight and global perspectives with local relevance. In doing so, IJTS aims to position tourism science as a discipline that not only observes the world but also improves it.
